What does Royalty Free (RF) mean? When buying a royalty-free image, what you pay is a one-time flat fee. Thus, it enables you to make use of the image for various projects as long as you wish since there's no limit. You do not own the copyright of the images but have bought out the right to use the images legally without further payments or interruption from the seller. These images cannot be resold or transferred but it offers a wide range of benefits; mainly lower pricing and convenience. Resulting from the fact that Royalty-free images are licensed on a non-exclusive basis, it's typical of people to prefer Royalty-Free images when there's no matter of competition or the image is not the part of the project to be focused on. RF photography concept is that does not require customers to pay royalties on the photo that they use after initial purchase. This greatly reduces the costs and allows far greater freedom with the images purchased. It's possible to use the images in catalogs, brochures, direct mailings, flyers, gift cards, newspaper ad, magazine, trade journal, web sites, as part of promotional, packaging or editorial material etc. What does Rights Managed(RM) mean? RM offers individual images to be rented through the negotiation of a specific price for a specific use and by offering clients the opportunity for exclusive rights and the ability of restricting similar use of the image by others. Once you negotiate a fee with the agency (or photographer) for the specific use you have in mind, any other use is subject to an additional fee. The way you make use of a Rights-Managed image is the key for the Rights Managed licensing fees. The scope of your project is generally what is based on to determine the fee you will be charged. How the image will be used, print run, image size, placement, insertions, duration of use and geographic distribution are included in the factors that are used to calculate the fee. However, the mail parameters in pricing are SIZE, CIRCULATION (the estimated number of people the image is likely to reach) and REPETITION (as in newspapers, books…etc) of the image. Limitations of the permission you received to use the image are also indicated on the invoice. Examples for the use of RIGHTS MANAGED licenses are: Creation of logos, trademarks or corporate identity. Use of exclusive graphical material for advertising or marketing campaigns. Design of products such as books, cards or merchandise with the use of licensed graphical material as the main element. You may get discounts if you would like to license multiple images for the same project or multiple uses. What Is a Lightbox?
